Had a little time to kill after lunch today so decided to re-detect a vacant old house next to a local cemetery where I had found 1 Liberty Head and 2 Mercury Head Dimes before. Glad I did as I found an 1853 Seated Liberty Quarter (my first) and what I believe to be a 1916D Mercury Dime (I can just make out the D). Also found an old musket ball and an old Chicago Lock Co. key which I believe went to an old safe. 001.JPG 016.JPG

Now ya see? The OP says he can just see a "D" on "his" coin, in person. And RIGHT AWAY....the nay sayers just HAVE to "correct" ! It's his business what he sees. Why not just be happy for him and wish him luck instead of trying to detract?!

A VERY nice hunt! Excellent saves! WTG!

Really nice finds.
Never mind what we see or don't see.
Take it to a coin dealer and see if it should be sent to PCGS for confirmation. A 1916d Mercury Dime is the KEY DATE.

I'm not being a smartass, but I've got good eyes, but no knowledge of these things, where should the mint mark be? What side of the coin?

Nice saves "D" mint mark or not. That seated Q is still on my bucket list. You have been on a role lately 2M.

Thanks for all the interesting replies! After settling down somewhat after finding my first Seated Liberty Quarter and then a possible 1916D Mercury Dime I am able to now look through my magnifiers with a much clearer mind and see (or not) that a D really is not there. It's like the time I had an instant lottery ticket and thinking I had won $5000 because I could swear that there were 3 $5000 matches on the ticket. I went on seeing 3 $5000 matches for about an hour looking at the ticket over and over again. Needless to say there were 2 $5000 matches-the 3rd was actually $500. The mind works in mysterious ways. Wishful thinking also plays a hand. In either case I am quite happy with a 1916 Mercury Dime and an 1853 Seated Liberty Quarter. Again thanks for all of your replies. I certainly did get your attention though. lol
