I had a great hunt today with some great fellas. My bro Charlie was kind enough to take me to a spot on a Staten Island. A site that had history of British Encampments and a couple 1800's homes. It required a bunch of bushwacking but we had a good time.

First was a banging hit...

Then the seated.... image.jpg

Beautiful...a seated half-dime with arrows.

Overall it was a great day with great company. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

The lock was cool. Patent date 1884.

Enjoy everyone and happy Thanksgiving

Steve

Yep, I'm done! Time to put coins in flips and sort through relics and figure out what to do with them haha!

Keep posting those gnarly finds to help get us frozen fools through the winter.

J, that's terrible to hear. I'm not sure how much time we have left here. It's been mild but things can close-in quick but I may find a thing or two before the deep freeze.

I love the buckle, that would be a dream find for me. A complete buckle has been on top of my wish list for quite some time. Congrats!

I couldn't agree more! I found the half dime after the buckle and it was not nearly the rush or excitement.

I love finding shoe buckles more than coins.....they are my favorite things to find...Most of the complete ones come from cellar holes or adjacent woods...most have an iron pin...and the innards are stuck...but I have a couple with a brass pin..and they move freely...I can't help but look at those pictures of your buckle every time I sign on..it's a beauty.

Great job on the Colonial Relics... I could dig one of those everyday and not get upset.

It was on my dream list as well since I broke my first one. I was so new that I tried to move the parts. It was BIS I found out later (Beginners Idiot Syndrome)

I am still upset for trying to clean a "complete" knee buckle, my first colonial buckle ever, it was complete but the inside was iron so it was almost rusted away, unfortunately on the way home I tried to "clean" the iron in a red light and it fell off, then I tried to put it back and the frame broke in half:BangHead:, I think that too was BIS. I technically do have another complete knee buckle, but the inside parts are iron rusted into one big mass inside the frame taking up the whole inside space inside the frame so I wouldn't cross that one off my wish list.

I have found all the parts of shoe buckles, frames, chapes, and tongues, just not together, maybe someday :)

Now thats a story I can relate to...almost exactly! I found a complete buckle only after hunting for 1 week! I was like, "um, duh, oooh, and old buckle." SNAP! I'm glad I learned quickly after that (Thanks to T-net)
