Honestly, when I got home I was feeling blue for only finding two flatties... That is until I cleaned them and read the back of one.... PRESIDENT ANDREW JACKSON 1829.
I've never seen a button like that, and after googling it, I found this:

The following Andrew Jackson Button was the first campaign button used in a Presidential Election.
The Jacksonian Democrats were keen on bringing their candidate to the attention of the voting
public and did not overlook the use of buttons as a means of advertising their candidate. Although
hampered by the current fashion, which permitted not the least ruffle on the fronts of buttons,
found a way of putting over their slogan on the back of the buttons. The buttons were stamped as
appears below "ANDREW JACKSON PRESIDENT 1829". This began the use of campaign buttons
in the promoting of candidates. --- Uniform Buttons by David F. Johnson

The Andrew Jackson Button is an extremely rare button with a RV of 250. This indicates a very
low number of such buttons known. These are shown in the Alberts Book as PC83.

Very cool button!

It could be displayed in a museum.

Congratulations!

I asked the APIC (group of political collectors) how rare and what the value of the button is, and this is his response:

This one is listed and photographed in Hakes guide to political buttons at
$325, but in mint condition. To be honest, in this condition it would
be hard to get more than about $50 for it from a political collector.
Condition is everything with us, and it's in rough shape compared to
what it originally looked like.

I would rather donate it to a museum before I sell it for $50.

Thanks for the reply! Well, according to everything I've read on it, 1829 was a time of clothing changes... Big buttons with designs were out so the people who ran Jackson's campaign came up with putting their guy's info on the back of a regular non-descript button.
I've also read that Jackson's campaign gave out sewing kits to ladies... Maybe this was one of the buttons in the kit... Imagine when the man of the house lost a button and the Mrs sewed this on in its place... Its subliminal marketing in its infancy! :D

Neil, thats too cool! I doubt very seriously he will get that much for it, considering the value is $350, but hey, whatever floats his boat. I'm going to put it on my watched items just so I can see if it sells.
Also, that person has cleaned that button in olive oil it appears.... I've kept mine pretty much the way it came out of the ground, except a little dirt removal with a toothbrush.
