Went back for a few minutes to my civil war spot only found this and tons shotgun shells

Who knows for sure. The bottom is cone shaped, but is it for a reason?




I found one recently that is brass and beefier. The small mounting hole is not round, it has two point shapes, like to keep it from turning if used with a bolt with two points?

Only other thing I found there that day was the completely faceless large colonial era copper coin......and two medium flat buttons the next trip. No way to date my eyelet, but looks way newer than the coin and buttons, to me. Your eyelet looks older to me, compared to mine.

That is a perfect match to mine. I forgot to say that mine came from a cornfield, and the field was in use for crops since the late 1600s, and still being farmed.... so dating by that is impossible

..but I have to guess it is for farming or workhorse or equipment they pulled by horse

Hmmmmmm ,I'm a don't know bout that one but ill bet all the SG-Shells were let behind by old time relic hunters who had no room in their pouches for them cause of all the relics.

I curse many a hunter who before me found that shell then threw it back on the ground.

I hunted some areas where they were planted or thrown all around. ARRRRRRRRRR!

I'm sometimes a slow thinker..... I sometimes found very old 12ga casings that were very rotted, barely under the leaves in the woods, and yards away, found same condition and age, about 5-6" deep..

Duh, now I know the place was detected a bit at some point, and they just left the dug ones

...but I don't quit, they must have missed something good..I hope
