It's about 8 inches by 2 1/2 in. Brass and was fastened by brass pins to steel that rusted away.

May not be military. Could have been a decoration for almost anything. Dresser, cabinet etc.

Very cool! Congrats on the eagle find. Based on its construction, it may have decorated another item (sign, frame, window) by being fixed right underneath it. Thus, the flat top to the winds. Sub 8-)

Definitely has that late 1800's style to it. Very nice American cultural icon right there.
They put eagles on everything back then, much more than they do now. :thumbsup:
