I got back to the old homestead site again on Friday afternoon and made a few more interesting finds. :hello2: Through researching old 1878 maps of the area I found there was a house located here until at least 1920. What's unusual is the lack of square nails that have been found here, I'm thinking the home was most likely a log structure. :icon_scratch: I found a brass horse bell, 2 - Canadian LC's dated 1903 & '07, a religious pendant, what is likely a collar badge featuring what I feel is a trolley car & a pair of fancy matching brass coat buttons. The buttons were found about 5' apart of each other, if anyone has an idea of when they might date from I would appreciate hearing from them!

Thanks very much for looking,
Dave

I'm always amazed at the beautiful buttons that come from your area, they're very ornate. Is that mother of pearl on the inside of them?

Thanks very much for your post and for your compliments Ed! :occasion14:
I've never dug buttons that looked like these before, my only wish is that they had a makers name or a patent date on them. :icon_scratch:

Best of luck to you,
Dave

I love the look of these buttons as well, it's too bad they don't have a back mark though. :dontknow:
The majority of the early settlers my area of Southern Ontario were Scottish, English and Irish, I can only assume these are British in origin.

I too have never seen an ivory or mother-of-pearl button set inside a brass button and I found them within a few feet of each other. :icon_scratch:

Thanks for your interest CG,
Dave

Nice haul you made!

Thank you Sir!

Thanks!
