Found this button today at the mid 1800's house, it rang an 86 on the Deus, it is the size of a penny and the front is worn out, the back mark has the initial GB then it says rich treble gilt, any age or ID help would be awesome, thanks HH, RCH
Treble Gilt is an indicator that it is of British manufacture. It means that the button was layered three times with a gold finish. This meant the quality of the finish would withstand many years of wear without the button discoloring. Many of these flat buttons came to the American market. A good age range is 1790-1840.
