It's been a long time since I've gotten to go MD'ing, and even longer since I posted anything on here. I decided to get out this New Years day to a place I've hunted a lot in the past, but one part of the property is pretty difficult to access. It took me about a half hour to go 100 yards into the woods to reach the site I wanted to hunt. There were so many briars and thorn bushes! My very first find of 2017 was the mystery Navy button! It is a two-piece button, but unfortunately the back is gone :(. To me it looks like 1840s or 1850s because of the high dome, but I have no idea. Can anyone positively ID this one? It's not listed in the Albert or Tice book. I was happy to see that it still has a good bit of gold gilt on it. My second find was the vehicle license. It's from my hometown of Jeffersonville, Indiana and expired in 1909. My last good find of the day was the small vest buckle. After cleaning it off I was surprised to see that it was dated 1874. I also found the usual large iron pieces, lead, and other junk. All in all, I would say that this was a good first hunt! Thanks for looking and HH!

Nice finds. I went out and found some nails and a new bullet casing.

Seeing as the steel back has gone, it points towards an early 20th C Blazer Button. (Plus the stylised anchor flukes) Still look nice though.

Thanks everyone! Crusader, the back was not steel, but brass. When I pulled it out, I could see the remnants of a back mark on the bit of the brass that was left. When I tried to clean it up lightly with a toothbrush, the rest of the back crumbled away. Here is a pic of the back. I left the dirt in it so as to not damage it further.
