Very beautiful 1829 large cent! History lesson time - the early US copper large cent blanks were often shipped thousands of miles from their place of manufacture to the US mint to be stamped later. The blanks were stored in with the ballast stones of these wooden merchant ships and often were at sea for many weeks - even months. Leaks in the ship's hulls often led the blanks to be in contact with salt water for quite some time leading to pitting and corrosion. So by the time the blanks reached the US mint they were often already quite damaged. Many early US large cents would have been already pitted even when they were freshly stamped out at the US mint as a result of this.

"Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual." -Thomas Jefferson
