Australian Private Token Coinage. Hogarth, Erichsen & Co., Sydney (New South Wales) , KM# Tn118 1860 silver 3 pence
15 year old catalog prices given as $75 in vg., $125 in fine, and $200 in very fine.
Another valuation has come back at £100 which is much less than I was thinking of but he did give me the story for the coins production :
"Your Threepence token is the commonest issue of a series of rare tokens issued 1858-1860 by this firm of Sydney Jewellers.* As with all tokens, they were issued during a period of necessity caused by a general shortage of small change in the community. *It was the last issue by this firm.* The earlier issues were made in very small numbers but this issue of 1860 was much more abundant.* This was because one of the partners had the habit of stamping out several Threepences each time he felt in need of refreshment at the pub, which apparently was rather frequent.* Not long after, currency was replenished by the government and the days of Tokens came to an end, with many of the silver threepences finding their way into the melting pot."
