Got out with olddude today, 1st time for 2017. We went north for a bit of permission seeking. I only spoke to 3 people and got a yes on 2. 1st place was ok for me got a buff and 7 wheats and the thing on the long chain. Dave got a nice Holed Large Cent there. Went up the road a bit and scored a nice 1860s permission. I got the 1886 seated dime (2nd seated in 2 weeks) and 1916 barber dime about 10 feet from each other. Also got 4 indians including a 1859 fatty and 1 wheat there plus 2 old rings that the gold plating wore off. Finished with 2 silvers (10fty), 8 wheats (50 fty), 4 indians (6 fty) and a buffalo plus the other odds and ends. One of my favorite finds besides the silver is the intact crotal bell. All in all a nice fun day of digging, thanks for coming along dave, it was a blast! Thanks for looking and Happy hunting!! 20170309_122523.jpg 2017-03-09 17.21.09-1.png 2017-03-09 17.14.47-1-1.png 20170309_164033-1.jpg 20170309_164001-1.jpg 20170309_163908-1.jpg 20170309_161238.jpg 20170309_161216.jpg 20170309_122510.jpg 2017-03-09 17.24.02-1.png

You & Old Dude had a great hunt, of course I haven't seen what he found yet. That long chain thing is really interesting. Any idea what it was for?

I don't know about a pocket watch chain, but I'm just not sure. In one of the pictures, that rectangular end of the chain looks like it would clip over a belt. And the other end, in this picture:

I drew an arrow to the part which may swival inward, for like adding keys. Maybe this is a key chain? Just pondering here :)

Yes, very very similar. But that angular shape on the "swivel (?) end, I can't imagine a pocket watch fitting there.

Pretty interesting item eh? Maybe a forever mystery! Great find that chain too!
