Went out for a under 2 hour hunt yesterday after work, needed the break from the stress of my job. After many junk signals, I recovered several clad, one Wheatie, a bullet that first appeared to be a three ringer, I suddenly saw silver in the hole!!! A nice crisp 1887 Seated Liberty dime! Unfortunately I whacked it with my digger, at least it was on the back of the coin. The ground was difficult to dig in, filled with small rocks and roots. I haven't scratched a coin up like that in a long time, kind of bums me out but still a cool find.

The bullet is not a Civil War three ringer, I found one similar as shown in the photos last summer at a different location. Not sure the caliper I have to check my post from last summer.

Enjoy the photos and happy hunting!

Yeah, that was a crisp looking seated till your digger did about $30 damage to it but it happens to us all

Congratualtions on the beautiful dime find! :occasion14: Not to worry, we have all damaged a coin or relic in our "careers".

Oh my, that obverse is as frosty as they get...looks like mint to ground within months. Just pretend it doesn't have a reverse till the pain goes away... : )

Well done, a nice first third of 17!

Thanks for reply, Trust me it really bothers me... not the loss of monetary value, the fact that I destroyed the reverse of a coin that probably hasn't seen the light of day for over 100 years. But I tell myself it's still a cool find.
