Welp. Went back to the 5 copper site I hit last week. Brought a friend this time.

Hit the same spot as last week just changed my grid from east west to north south. Same 40x60' patch of iron...

People were sayin' "there has to be a real there" and I agreed. And there was! And a bunch of other stuff including a sweet amazing astounding 1796 liberty cap large cent!!! Shock....

The real is a 1787 1/2 real and it was squished by something at some point. I managed to gather three of its four pieces so I'm happy!

Among other things I also dig another draped bust (as did my buddy) mine is 1802 his looks like a 1798 but we couldn't get a full ID. 17 more buttons. A sweet buckle and some lead....

Here are the photos, thanks for looking and happy hunting!! IMG_0247.JPG IMG_0250.JPG IMG_0244.JPG IMG_0246.JPG IMG_0243.JPG IMG_0242.JPG IMG_0236.JPG

Congrats on the great hunt, it really paid off well changing the grid pattern and popping to from the 1700's.

Wow wow wow, tons of great detail on that liberty cap! Great hunt at a great site. I had a similar occurrence at my corn field site. Found tons of large cents, flat buttons, relics, etc. I knew somewhere in there there had to be old silver. Well there was and my buddy I brought there found it, a barely identifiable half real.
Congrats again on that liberty cap !
