The rain finally stopped late this morning in W PA. It has been a really wet early summer so far. Decided to keep it simple and hit my normal old homestead lunchsite. It was immediately clear that with 80 degrees and now sunny that the humidity was out of control. Kept to the shadows of the forest and saw some nice ripe blackberry bushes near where I had pulled some previous coins. First signal was a high tone, had to clear a little brush. Then found 5 wheats in the same section if blackberry bushes. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1500054999.643002.jpg
This 1917 S Merc has a great look to it. Just rinsed the dirt off. Something about the simplicity of this coin design makes it one of my favorites to find. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1500055106.238430.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1500055115.036580.jpg
Good luck out there this weekend!

Send the rain up here! It keeps missing us and it's hard to dig.

Congrats on the wheats and century silver

For the age of the dime and the fact it was buried, you got to love the amount of detail on it, really nice! Congrats!:icon_thumright:

Congrats on a great day! :occasion14:

The condition comparison is why I much prefer gold and silver to copper and nickel; they hold up so much better. Ok... that's not the MAIN reason I prefer them! :tongue3:

Stay on those blackberry bushes and get 'em all!

Thanks for the comments. Here are some higher res photos, trying to capture the perfect dark tarnish this old girl has. She looks better in person. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1500058973.460073.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1500058983.542663.jpg

That's a nice one. I've dug two mercs this year, both 1917. I think one was an S.

Not every day a 17-S comes out looking that nice. Not even in a coin shop! That's a beautiful early Merc dig. Congratulations!
