Yesterday I made my best find yet!! I'm still new to metal detecting. Just started this summer and am totally hooked. Dug a semi sketchy signal mid 50s yesterday after finding tons of scrap copper reading in the same area. Pulled this out and was praying it wasn't more garbage. When I saw the front I nearly had a heart attack. So here it is! My IHS Jesuit fur trade ring from the 1650s. Dug it in a field that had long houses and captured christians during the 1650s. I still can't believe it!! Hope you all enjoy.

fantastic recovery on a piece of history. I'm voting banner as well.

I am relatively new to the forum but am interested in voting "banner" for this find. How do I do this using the TNet app on my iphone? Thanks.

Thanks! It's actually my first ring I've found. I'm definitely going to detect the heck out of it. Hopefully there's still more. It has been detected and even had some archeologists dig there. But they can't get everything! ;)

Glad that research paper proved useful. It isn't easy finding info on them. I thought it was a banner find when you posted it to Native American artifacts, and I'm voting as such. The Finger Lake region makes it a Senaca Iroquois site.

I'll repeat what I posted there because folks may not know this:

IHS=Isus Hominis Salvator=Jesus Savior of Mankind.
