So I made it for a couple more lunch hunts after scoring the nice Walker earlier this week. Weather has been crazy cool and dry. First stop was to the area where the Walker popped and this was my first hit. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1504200402.250641.jpg
1973 Kennedy Half, sort of 2 halves in a row, but this one is only worth $.50. Found 2 more wheats from 40's and then swung under a big old pine tree. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1504200520.018739.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1504200533.639603.jpg
High tone hit, but under major rootage, finally uncovered the target, same size and thickness as a LC, but this seems like a key blank with the shaft broken off, don't know.
A few feet away and another hit in the penny range under roots. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1504200700.934461.jpg Old onyx ring with copper band.

Tried my hand at using LIDAR as many of the wooded forests I hunt have huge trees, so aerials don't show much, thought LIDAR might help with penetrating the canopy. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1504200890.971410.jpg Tried this with my new favorite lunch site and found a small depression. About the center of the photo. The aerial also showed an anomaly. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1504200995.829716.jpg . It turned out to be a huge uprooted tree. Oh well.

Good luck out there!

The lidar is really neat, I looked into it a while ago but couldn't find any that had been done locally then. looks like a great way to find old home sites though

Theoretically it is a great tool, but It seems like there will be a fairly long learning curve. I looked at some sites with LIDAR where I know cellar holes exist and there is a slight disturbance in map, but not a slam dunk visual. Interpreting the contours is a challenge...

That old ring is COOL BEANS dude! I love old rings with character. That one oozes of days long ago and some little gal really fancied that ring. May appear as "not much" to some but, to me it's someone's long lost treasure.:headbang:

LIDAR is pretty cool but didn't show up anything new for us.

I like LIDAR and use it for prospecting for minerals regularly. However on occasion I have used it locate potential detecting sites.
The trick is getting large scale ones, up front and personal to see the tiniest hints. I can find old overgrown fields & pastures using it.
