The Park That Keeps on Giving

Found this 1944 Wheat Penny today in the park where I found the Merc Dime, Silver Ring, and other Wheat Pennys. This park jsut keeps on giving, alone with the wheat found over two dollars in clad. Found the wheat at base of a huge pine tree, the park was built in te late 1930"s, each time I find something old I wondering who lost it and when, where they there at the park with family enjoying park.

Congrats on your Wheatie, there's bound to be more where that came from in a park built in the 1930's.
Try detecting the edges of the park close to the fences, most guys stick to the open areas.

Love the wheaties, great way to start the day! Always good to check around the base of the trees, a lot of times they're missed, or changes to the root systems move things around. Congrats!

Exactly. I agree. When hunting public parks I seek out places that most folks would not care to go. Steep slopes, woods, in the shrubs, etc. I do find some old Nickels the cherry pickers leave in open areas but, not much silver.

If you have a 1944 steel penny you are quite the fortunate man. Check the link for more information about the scarcity of such a coin. Nice find whatever it's composition is. Keep after it mate.

Checked with magnet, no luck on being steel but a great find never less, it will go in my wheat collection.
