I had a great time yesterday with a couple good friends & saved a little history. We went to the Columbia area, in search of my SC roots & also to do a little detecting. I met some distant relatives & learned some great information. I'm just digging into that side of the family. It was really neat to visit the graves of my 3rd & 4th great grandparents as well as Donna Howell's grave, who my mother was named after. I met some people that had known her, small world! We detected a little while, the site was very grown up so we had to hunt the edges. I found a first, a late 1820s-1830s one piece eagle button. It's worn & cant really make out anything in the shield (maybe an A?). I also found a musket ball, Civil War Spencer casing & a piece of a sterling silver pen. My buddy Rick found an awesome 1834 Congressional campaign button. It was a scorcher yesterday but still great to get out to learn & save some history! Well done Josh. I like the button, and the silver pen.
