Hey guys, I found my second 1600's coin this year. I found it this past Sunday with my White's MXT Pro. It's very worn but there are enough details left to identify it as a Type 1 William III Half Pence which was minted from 1695 - 1698. I think my coin is dated 1697. It has a beautiful patina. There ain't nuthin like digging colonial!

Donnie congrats on another fantastic early recovery. Finding 17th Century coins is a pretty tough thing to do. I think I have 3 and a likely 1590s coin. You're doing great my friend. Keep up the great work. Btw I just got Bill Dancy's book that just came out. For anybody that loves colonial finds and early history it's by far the best I've seen. I know that's a bold statement but the quality and content is phenomenal. Keep up the good work Donnie

I guess I may never know what it might be like to recover those old colonials. Perhaps I'll live long enough to get out east and maybe have a chance to score one.:laughing7: Lovely green disk for sure.:icon_thumright:

No corrosion - that’s awesome. What a feeling holding 1600’s in your hand. Thanks for the pic! Helps me ID the one I got a couple hours ago as a type 3.

The soil where I found the coin is a sandy type and well drained. I first used a toothpick on the dirt and there was a green "haze" of corrosion under the dirt. I worked up enough nerve to try Andre's pencils on the coin very lightly. After I was happy with the result then I gave it a light coat of Renaissance Wax. I just got lucky that it wasn't toasted.
