Hit up some local schoolyards, which as you know, are my "Happy Places." They did not disappoint. While hitting a schoolyard soccer field, I spot a shiny object just as I was swinging my coil over it. Looked down to see a highly polished 1941 Mercury dime lying on the surface!?!?!?!? :icon_scratch:

It was so clean that I did not have to do anything to it when I brought it home, just enjoy it. I speculate that some kid brought his/her "lucky" coin to show off, and you know the rest...:laughing7:

I then hunted in the grass along the outside edge of the playground, and found this big (size of a US silver dollar) 1980 Golden Gate Casino (Las Vegas) one-dollar gaming token. I love digging tokens and this is my second BIG one in a month. This big guy rang up ONLY a 75 VDI, but was really deep at 8" down. (Deep for a newer school yard.)

I then scored a really pretty sterling silver birthstone (?) ring, marked .925 MO, with a very pale blue stone in the center, and eight chocolate colored stones around it. It was a nice 78 VDI on the ATPro at about six inches down. An unusual design that I have not found before.

A fun weekend, albeit crazy weather. Hot and foggy, then suddenly cold and drizzly, good grief. Good thing Julio is "all weather!" Thanks for peeking and Happy Hunting to all my friends on TNet!

Great hunt Sub. Maybe that token was deep in the new school yard because they brought in some dirt fill from somewhere else and it was mixed in there.

Excellent hunt,
I do love those Mercurys.
Cool little Sterling ring. Too bad the Casino token wasn't silver.
Congratulations

Congrats on those 3 sweet finds Sub. Being a surface find I presume someone else dug it and missed their finds pouch since they weren't meant to posses it, but you were. It's great when Karma works in your favor.

Nice collection! As a retired teacher, school yard finds are always interesting to me. Yes, the Mercury dime is a puzzle, but you are probably right about a kid bringing it to school to share with his classmates. It was like the buffalo nickel that I found at SoCal beach, close to the surface--how in the heck did it get there?? As we know, there are stories behind every find, which is what keeps our hobby interesting.

Thank you friends for your kind words and information. Loco- I haven't seen any sign, (good or bad) of other diggers at these two schools in the two years I have been hunting them, so I can pretty much conclude a student dropped that old shiny dime. Trezurehunter, I like your theory on the fill dirt. Don't think it came from Las Vegas though, lol! As a kid, I was always bringing small toys and things to school that should have stayed home. No telling how many were lost... Sub 8-)
