Pulled this out today, along with a flat button with a ring of stars on the back of it and a large green cent that is toasted so I can’t see a thing.

I think this is CW Army, but I can’t find an exact match online- close but no match if you look at the details close.

IMO it looks like an 1875 to 1902 Indian Wars button.

The more I look at it the more it looks like the older style (CW)... somebody that knows what they are talking about will be along shortly. Nice button either way. Congrats.

Yep, that's a nice Civil War general service button! Some have lots of detail and some don't. There are literally dozens of die varieties of these. Nice find!

It does look like Civil War General Service. Congrats on a nice find.

Would general service be domed and gilded?

Looks like there might be something in the shield. A little aluminum jelly or lemon juice water would bring out the gilt and help you see the shield. I have hundreds of eagle buttons and only 1 is a gilted GS. They are out there, but rare.

I agree with metalev4. Not sure its general service yet, clean the shield and see if you get lucky! :icon_thumright:
