Well old man winter is knocking on our door now so I figured I'd better get out for a hunt. Went for a permission and everyone at work and the farm was off limits for Biosecurity so I went back to the site where I got a couple of coppers and a ramrod guide.
Start was slow as I got a brass reed and I soon got bored so I did some tree limb crossing of the creek and went to the actual older site.
Slow going again as I was getting deep iron with holes, nuts, washers, buckles, but very few targets. I got a nice sounding hit and popped the Wreath Buckle. Then not more than a foot away this brass item that looked like a knife guard but I noticed writing on the edge.
It turns out to be a 1832 George IV Half Penny Token from the Province of Nova Scotia! So why the heavy reworking on the token? Well I got the idea that might of been repurposed for the tongue portion of the buckle.
What ever the reason was I got a couple of firsts today.
This is what greeted me for the start of the day.

The Half Penny fits for a tongue. Pure speculation on the coin being reused as this, I'm open for all ideas that anyone has to the purpose of this coin.

How the day ended, most of the snow gone.

Not sure why some of the photos are sideways. Sorry

This would certainly make sense from a 're-purposed' stand point Jim.
I'm more happy to see that you got out detecting for a while amid all of your renovations.
Hope you're feeling better these days my friend! :hello:

Dave

Thanks Dave

I hear on the renovation break, one can only have enough "floors-doors-and more" work before they need a break.

That’s a really really awesome find pal. I love the story and I think you’re dead right about the repurposed coin. Really cool

Thanks Abe
Even though I was trying for 3+hrs in try to get a coin from the field I didn't realize that I 'd fulfilled the wish an hour into the plugging. Hope your able to get out and recover something great, all the best.

Thanks Blaze
Hope your getting in some hunt time yourself.
Maybe in RI one can maybe hunt in the woods year round, but in Eastern Ontario the frost can be a foot+ deep even in the forest. Nope it's just a dream to be hunting after the first of the yr, the latest hunt has been around the end of the first week in Jan. Under the snow it was still frozen down a few inches, though digging was ok after getting through the crust.
