British military oval shoulder plate...

Well its what i think it might be anyway. I found a some nice new hunting grounds today with multiple cellar holes and i only had a chance to hunt around one very quick due to work. I didn’t get any coins this first time but at least the other finds tell me that the area should all be virgin sites. The find I’m excited about most is the shoulder buckle. Would be nice to find a fancy marked silver one but this will have to do. It has a weird engraving and what looks like the initials W H. Im hoping some buckle experts will have some info on it for me. Thanks for looking! [emoji2][emoji106]

This is what i found so far on the property. The original crown land grant around late 18th century was to a Ainsley Millett. Then on my 1865 map exactly where i was shows a house location to a J. Millett. So my guess is it came from a Millett that was in the military or a close companion living with them or visiting. Im going to do more research after work but at least have somewhere to start! [emoji2][emoji106]

If you flip the plate 180 degrees from the position that you are holding it in your picture the initials read "HM." Maybe H. Millett?

Thanks. The weather is unbelievable warm for this time of year here. Doubt it will last but i have busy work season coming in a few days so I’m screwed for hunting either way! [emoji30]

Sweet looking belt plate.
I found one that is very similar,, but was plain without markings. It was identified as being military, circa 1830 to 1855.
It was found at an 1812 military battle site.

I'm no expert on these, as they hardly ever turn up over here. But my first gut feeling looking at the fixings was mid-19th C.
