**Cleaned the button since posting this thread. Definitely NOT colonial, word BEST on back of button.**

BUTTON
1901 INDIAN HEAD PENNY
SMALL FLAT BUTTON
SQUARE NAILS

I dug this pretty little button today. Since learned word BEST on back. I also dug a few other buttons and a 1901 Indian Head in good shape. Also dug two square nails and a few modern bullets. It was a good day for 3+ hours in a cotton field.

*The button is a little smaller than a clad dime.

Button Front. Dug with the XP Deus.

NOTE: Since cleaning, BEST is visible on the back. Def NOT Colonial. Note to self, clean button 1st.

I was thinking Scottish, with the thistle. Searched, but could not find it.

i'd be interested in researching that some more. i always learn things, that is part of the enjoyment of this hobby. never thought i'd turn into a buttonologist. :dontknow:

Not many people do until you detect for a few years. I had no interest in buttons when I started & I used to sell them like my other items in the scrap pile. Now I regret that & keep them all like all my other finds.

agreed. i started in the hobby in the 90s looking for treasure off shipwrecks on the south coast of texas on the border of mexico. let me tell you, those finds were so far in between and i thus got bored quickly. as the hobby morphed into other directions, it got more interesting. i'd never think i'd be interested in old buttons. how about this? nails. i also collect old nails and try to date them.
