I was hunting a rumored French Trading Post on an old farm. The land records date back to early 1700's. I found these 2 beauties on my second ever hunt. I think the coin is part of a crown real. The button i have no idea. Any and all information or ideas would be much appreciated.

The cut coin is from a Spanish Pistareen (2 reales). The cufflink is really interesting. Haven't seen that one before. Looks like the soldier playing the fife in the old picture, but it might even be G. Washington, although I would expect Washington to be either on a horse or a portrait....not marching like that.

The cut coin is probably early 1700s but the cuff-link is much later, circa 1790s

The figure is not on a horse. He appears to be marching. You can see both legs, and his left leg is raised as if taking a step. Which is a pose that I would not think is representative of someone with the stature of Washington. I don't think anymore cleaning is necessary. It looks to have a nice green solid patina. I think clearer pictures in better light would be helpful.

Thanks everyone!

What is the best way to clean it without hurting it? It is not the best picture, but it appears to have some sort of a greenish "paint"?

I think it is a soldier of some type holding a curved sword, standing in front of a cannon.

When I get home i will get better pictures.

It’s a very clean button already. Any more cleaning would likely ruin it. Based on the shape and subject content I’m thinking post-Rev war - 1780’s-1810’s. Very nice

I see the cannon now. You have a very interesting patriotic cufflink from the late 18th century. It could date to the earliest years of the 19th century too. My guess is it's depicting a hero from the Rev War. Might be Washington, might be Lafayette, who knows without an inscription on it? The greenish "paint" is a copper alloy oxide that formed from being in the ground or 200+ years. You DO NOT want to clean that off. That adds to the appeal.

Ok ya'll...a little backstory to shed some light...

These were some of my very first finds, but it was a few years ago. I found them on our family farm. It has a few interesting places on it. This spot in particular we used to pick pieces of blue and white pottery of the field after plowing. I went here with a yardsale find MD(Bounty Hunter Pioneer 101) when i was first entertaining the idea of getting into MDing. However, i lived 7 hours or so from the farm at the time. So these finds went in a safe and the MD went in the closet. Recently i have gotten back to it, and i even upgraded some to a Garrett AT Pro. Since then, i have found many more interesting things. Though, none as neat as these, IMO.

Here are some better pictures(hopefully) of the cufflink/button.

Here are some other finds at the same site(I have only hunted an area about 2000 sq ft.) Some buttons, musket balls and a hollow cone shape with a hole through it.

You really start with a bang, two great finds. Really be careful with the button/link as it's a beauty with the patina as it has on it now.

I am fascinated by the designs on cufflinks of that period, and that one is a really sweet one. I have cufflinks with anchors, running foxes, masonic symbols, birds of paradise, and some that I'm not sure of. There is a beautiful John Adams cufflink on the Banner right now. I have also seen King George III, Admiral Rodney, and even hot air balloons. Here is one with George Washington that I found. His face looks a lot like the officer on your cufflink.
