    Bill, do those buckles strike you as English or Spanish? I don't have an example but the styling and patina gives it the look of some Spanish buckles I've seen posted. I've been thinking about those two beauties all day and it's been irking me whilst steering my ship. lol

    Thanks thrifty, it's private property with the owners doing to the construction work. Not kidding, 30 sec after I dug the 1797 real it would have been crushed

    Good eye Bill, I just lumped them into the other bosses and leather ornaments I've dug over the years... Had no idea they were 17th century.

    I'm not all that familiar with Spanish buckles, but I feel like it's probably just another decorative variety of the English single loop buckles with the recessed strap bar like some of those shown in the Whitehead book on page 29. But not 100% sure about that.

    I'm thinking the crushed copper alloy item may be a ladies copper wedding band, I have found two separate copper bands over the years. One of the bands I found even had gold plating on the inside which would have been against the skin
