I went out looking for a late 1700s, early 1800s homesite today for about three hours, and I believe I found it, few flat buttons, broken up axe head and a hot iron.. But I found this old little buckle with two snakes going around it, Does it fit with the time frame??

Very nice.

This one has me a little puzzled. Apart from a few late medieval freaks the locking of the central pin with those 2 collars wasn't a feature of buckles until about 1880.

So based on its construction characteristics I would date it to 1880s - 1920s.

However, it is a heavier cast bronze looking material, with a brass pin, which is an odd combination, so it could be earlier, but its NOT 18th C. Purpose unknown, as its the first I have seen.

Thanks for the info. I think your right, I believe its not as old as the homesite, but I'm thinking around mid to late 1800s, even early 1900s.

Really cool buckle. It would be nice to identify what it's intent was. Decorative, military, civilian, or just a plain old fashion statement??
You're over some nice dirt, congratulations.

Well well. It appears you have found the holster buckle for Snake Plissken's dual Smith and Wesson Model 22147 Nickel plated Magnum Revolvers. That has to make this the COOLEST buckle EVER! I reckon he will want it back like his snake ring I found in 2017. Keep it in a safe place and keep your eyes peeled for a dangerous character wearing a patch over his eye lurking about. Extreme COOL factor on the buckle and pristine condition. Can't ask for more than that. Bravo!

Hi. That small snake buckle is a nice find and in great condition. Last year i found the same small snake buckle in a field close to my house while metal detecting here in South Africa. I have always wondered how old that buckle is.
