Hello Everyone,

The weather was beautiful today for a long walk in the farm fields! After purchasing my Dunkin Donuts coffee and finding a nice coin spill (87 cents) in the parking lot, I began the 1 hour and 30 min drive to my new permission farm fields. It did rain last night, so the fields were a bit messy with mud and soft spots! Today, using my freestyle hunting method many keepers found their way into my finds pouch.

UPDATE Tnet member Bramblefind has given some additional information on the coin: 1773 "Boyish George" Contemporary Counterfeit Half Penny

Coins:

1773 KG Copper (beautiful patina)
1881, 1899 & 1902 Indian Head Cents
1924 Mercury dime
1898 Barber dime
1974 Lincoln cent
Plus two unidentifiable small copper coins

Relics:

Fired Round ball
Flat Button w/shank
Small spoon
And a host of other non-ferrous targets

Thank you for looking.

GL & HH

Doc

great day a field with an assortment that would make a collector of this and that proud. Lucky devil too as we do not have that coffee chain here....nor a Denny's. Take care and good luck on the next adventure me bouy!

What a place Doc! When you get through hunting the whole area, you should do a summary of everything you've found there- probably be massive! Congrats on today's stuff!

Hi Doc - it's a neat King George! I thought it might be a member of a contemporary counterfeit family called "Boyish George" but I wasn't 100%. So I went right to the source and confirmed it with the author of the article about this family of halfpennies (Roger A. Moore, M.D.). He agreed that it is a Boyish George family member based on the obverse. The reverse photo and coin details weren't clear enough to classify the die but the date is 1773 not 1775 (all the coins in this family are 1773 or 1774 and the subgroup your coin obverse is in are all dated 1773)

I know it probably looks like a 1775 but the 3s in this family can be weird.

Looks like another great spot you scored Professor. Excellent coin hunting. Always love my marbles too. We can never have too many places to go exploring. Well done.

Hello P of E. Wow, that is a coinucopia of nice finds...well worth the drive, walk, and muddy conditions.

Seven dug coins with six being nice keepers back to the 1700's...dang, it does not get much better...

Thanks for the post and Good Luck out there. C9
