Managed to find time this week for a couple of hunts that turned out great by my standards. My first hunt was using my T2 SE at a Colonial site that I was told had been hunted to death. I think I found an area that they missed before. The sandy soil around here is very mild and any non-ferrous targets come through loud and clear. I dug a couple of buttons including a pre Civil War Navy cuff button and a couple nice decorative civilian buttons. The 1 Real locked in at a steady 81 on the T2 and I was expecting lead but to my surprise out popped a silver coin. First thing I did was check the edge which was smooth so I was sure it was Spanish silver. Turned out to be a 1739 Pillar 1 Real.

The next day I hit a site that I have pounded for a couple of years but broke out my new Nox 800 for it's maiden trip. I set it up in Park 2 mode and got busy. I haven't used a Minelab for about 6 years since I had an Etrac so I was somewhat familiar with the tones - not that I like them. To my surprise it sniffed out several buttons that I had missed before including a CW period Federal Dragoon cuff button and several flat buttons. The Large Cent was about 8 inches down and surrounded by nails and on edge. I have to say I was pretty impressed with the Nox after my first outing with it. Looking forward to trying it out at some of my other pounded sites.

Awesome finds! :icon_thumleft: Nice score on the real. The Nox is really a great detector once you get used to the tones.

Dragoon button and Spanish silver, that's about as good as it gets in my book.

Congrats to you sir!

Thats banner in my world I know its not on this site but That would be a hunt I would never forget my town was founded 1826ish so the chances of something that old is like being able to build a ladder to the moon. Great post

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. I can tell you that most days I am happy to come back with a single flat button so this was a banner hunt for me. Hunts like this are what keep us coming back for more.

That would be a banner day for me too. Beautiful finds, I wish our ground was as kind to relics as yours is. Our acid soil eats them up most of the time.

Keep swingin.

The soil, or rather sand around here is pretty mild but combined with the salt from the ocean it sticks to coins and relics and pits them pretty badly. But I'll take our sand over hard red clay any day.

Ken, congratulations on the excellent finds.

Thanks, Reed. Not so much on quantity but the quality of finds is not bad.
