Re-hit another pounded cellar hole with the Nox.

First 18-19 signal was only an inch deep.

This particular site is fairly kind to IHPs.

Then a surface find.

Wish it was a complete bottle with the magical liquid still inside.

Then I get a silver dime signal, really shallow, immediately thinking beer can top, but lift the coil and the signal vanishes, cool. Dig a shallow plug, just under the dead leaf layer.

Ok, I have dug over 100 silver plated spoons in the last year, so when I see a spoon in a dime signal plug it is a bit of a let down. Then I allow myself a tiny percentage of hope that it is an actual silver spoon.

Pick it up and remove some dirt and it has the beautiful blackened silver tarnish. Some coin silver plated spoons have this look, but there is always an area where the brass shows through or the silver plating is flaking. But not this time!!!!

Bucket Lister... Silver Spoon. Yippee.... Finally.

Can anyone ID this spoon, date? Anything from the hallmarks?

Outstanding ! The spoon is a great find - the pointed end of the bowl and the style of the marks are typical of American spoons circa 1830's -40's. If you look at online references for American Silversmiths of the period , you should nail down the maker .

Thx Steve. This year I’ve found a silver thimble, solid silver pocket watch and now the silver spoon. I guess I call them bucket listers as I have found a plethora of these items in non precious metal, finally finding them in silver = bucket lister. Spanish Cob, 2,4,8 Reales and Capped Bust Silver are on the list for sure, oh I could squeeze in a US gold coin, and... I guess the bucket is pretty big...

If I did have a bucket list, it would include a gold coin, chain cent, GW Inaugural button, a Nova or a Fugio in good condition, an Indian Peace medal, and, and, and that's enough for now

Thx! I just tried Googling H&S silver spoon and was able to find that this was Hotchkiss & Schreuder of Syracuse NY, 1857-1864. I would date this cellar from 1850-1920 from the artifacts I’ve found there, so the silver spoon date makes sense.
I’ve found a bunch of plated spoons where the bowl was manipulated into a point. I’ve always thought these were used to pour molted lead for farm fixes. I wonder why old silver spoons were pointed?
