Friday a farmer called just as he finished deep ploughing one of our roman sites. We grid in spring, in stubble after harvest and realized we did a good job in spring with just nothing left we were after. Now it was a complete differend game. Farmer did a 20" plough because of the drought we had. Better chance for rain to soak in. I was busy yesterday and my buddy took home a good number of roman coins and a few fibulae coming off the main scatter.
Today we gridded further were well rewarded in the soft muddy soil.
Lead
Modern coins, strap end and buckle frag
Roman coins with a rare Follis of Crispus in good condition.

Samian pottery, as new roman nail
Hair pin head, tiny gilded strap end, lead loom weight, lead bead, bronze frags, broken merowingian bird brooch...
And the killer find of the day, another bird brooch. Late 5th-early 6th C., usually worn in pairs by woman.
