I had a few hours to kill before work yesterday so i head out to one of my permissions that i have hit before.
After digging lots of trash and a few wheat pennies i happened upon this. Only a couple feet from where i picked up my first Enfield bullet!

FullSizeRender(3).jpg

To say it caught my attention would be an understatement! What in the world could it be? Its heavy like a bullet but 5 rings?

After closer examination, i believe it is the tip of a writing device...most likely a pen.

Oh well....even every day items bring the excitement of finding something extraordinary. It keeps me digging!

HH everyone!

Is it lead? If so itโ€™s probably a 30 cal cast bullet. I make some that look similar.

Almost certainly a bullet, just post-dates the war. I have many times found a Civil War era bullet and then a few feet away found bullets that post dated the Civil War bullet by 100 years.

There's a number of cast lead and jacketed solid bullets like that available for handloaders. The two examples shown here are from my Lyman reloading manual, both copper jacketed, but different calibers.

Scratch to see if lead or jacketed. Either way I'm betting bullet. 20190116_153015.jpeg 20190116_153015.jpeg

I am 99.99% sure it is a dart. I think it is brass or copper.
But like I said ... everyday objects can sometimes give us a surge

Their is a small hole in the front that i did not see out in the field from all the mud. After cleaning it, i found the hole and concluded it was some sort of writing device such as a pen. It was then determined not to be a pen but rather a throwing dart.

The purpose of this thread was not to lead people to believe i found a bullet. I specifically stated it was not a bullet, even in the thread title. Instead, i wanted to convey the excitement of what i found and how at first i thought it was something more than what it was. We all get that find that we think is something special only to recognize it later as something much less impressive.
