It looks as if an old style bottle cap was imbedded into the rock.

very cool, we have found great fossils here but they can be hard to find. Found this rock on top of a tall ridge in the middle of nowhere that had a rock the size of a tub covered in fossils. I wanted to get it out of there but you would had to make a road to it to use a backhoe LOL. now I have no idea which ridge it was on. I always checked the rocks in the creeks etc for them.
