I got out for my first hunt since the ground froze solid in January, it’s been a long cold snowy winter here in the north! My first field, next to an old fruit orchard was pretty much still frozen to due the thick ground cover. The orchard was pretty much frozen as well, I’ll head back here again in the next week or so. The next site I headed to was a very muddy and wet farm field where the archeologists had been digging last summer. This site is scheduled to be developed into residential house later this year. The surface/eyeball finds were plentiful after the had snow melted, but I did manage to make a couple of interesting finds, but no real keepers. I’ll head back here as soon as the ground firms up a bit… it felt like my rubber boots had five pounds of mud stuck to them!
Word of advice, don’t leave your expensive prescription eye-glasses on the Tonneau Cover of your pick up truck, as you might drive away forgetting they’re still there. I drove for over a mile before I realized this was the case yesterday morning on my way to detect. I decided to head back and walk the route I drove three hours earlier, thankfully I found them on the side of the road in a ditch. When I got home our dog Lilly said, “Dad how could you be so silly... do you have a treat for me”?
Thanks very much for looking!
Dave
