The Sultan's Treasure Has A New Owner! Ottoman Silver!

I have discovered a hoard of Ottoman Imperial coins dating back over 100 years. They were unrecognizable when I started digging them up today, but I just cleaned one, and it has revealed itself to be more stunning than I could have imagined. It took over an hour to clean, and it has revealed itself to be a 1911 '10 Qirsh' 83% Silver coin from Egypt, weighs about 13 grams. Its markings are "1327/3" and displays the imperial monogram of Sultan Abdul Hamid II. This is just one of the coins I have cleaned, I have a very strong suspicion there may be a massive hoard buried in the general area. So far 6 coins have been recovered. Pirate treasure... hopefully. Maybe retirement quantities. There were bits of wood, may be remnants of a chest, and no - I am not joking.

Didn't even know it was silver... thought it was a token.

So far this is as clean as I got it... it is about the size of a half dollar and weighs about 13g. It is from 1911 Egypt under the rule of the Ottoman Empire under Sultan Abdul Hamid II...

There are more out there... I didn't have the proper digging equipment today, so will return tomorrow and snag the rest of the Sultan's treasure.

Awesome find UnderMiner. Best of luck to you from one New Yawker to another . Just curious. What process are you using to clean those encrusted coins? and i'm assuming those are beach finds since they are so encrusted as I would suspect dirt silver finds to be in much better condition.

Definitely an interesting discovery, a hoard buried by a refugee who managed to escape WW1 or the subsequent collapse of the empire?

Only a little bit of silver unfortunately. Thought this was going to be the one. Also not sure if I was the only one who found this site, there was very clear evidence of someone else having dug in the area the day I went back to look for more.
