Had an other productive week-end. Even though the quantity of the finds wasn't exceptional, the quality was sure present. In fact, found not one but two personal bucket listers in perhaps one of the most difficult categories - early luxury items.

The first one was on my list for a few years and although it's not complete, I'm very happy to cross it off my list.

Solid silver colonial shoe buckle (late 1700's)

Weighing in its present state at 18 grams of solid silver, the complete buckle would originally weight around 30 grams. That's like wearing an 8 Reales coins on each of your shoes. It has a makers mark that I'm not familiar with. Unfortunately the part containing the rest of the hallmarks is probably still waiting for me on the field.

The second bucket lister was a huge surprise to me.

An old hand engraved gold ring with the text that reads - F.D.M. to F.H.W. Oct 23 '82 (I would guess 1882 rather than 1782)

Looks too big to be a wedding band. It weights 5 gr. and is made of approx. 16 karat gold, again no hallmarks. I will try to find out who that ring might have belonged to. The relics and coins discovered on that site indicate that the house was built somewhere around the mid 1700's and stood there until the late 1800's If the same family has occupied it until it was demolished it should be possible to ID its owner.

(It's funny, as I was just talking to I.P. a few days before saying that the chances of me finding a gold object on my fields were extremely slim. :laughing7:)

Not many coins or other relics.

And a few Georges. Two British and one American. :laughing7: Found them on an other field that in the past only produced early coppers and Spanish silver. You can imagine my reaction after discovering that the large silver disc that I pulled from the ground on one of my best sites was just an other quarter. :BangHead:

Thanks for the comments.

Well done Aureus! Love that big old silver shoe buckle. And an odd coincidence as I found my first silver shoe buckle fragment yesterday. Hopefully next time we recover a complete piece.

The British Georges have been eluding me as of late but I know they are out there! I would still be happy with a nice silver quarter! Really nice finds though and that buckle piece is awesome. That would be pretty amazing if you could tie the ring to a person! Good luck with the quest!

Nice variety of finds, you are a treasure magnet. I found one of those boutwell tokens back in 82 and remember sending a pencil rubbing in to Treasure Found magazine for an ID. Those were hard times without a place like tnet.......but you are still on a roll!

From the looks of that buckle there's a great chance it's still somewhere on the field. It seems to be broken by the plow.
