Gilt Looking Old Locket

Went and did about an hour of metal detecting tonight just before the sun went down.. First signal was this old filigree locket..
The pictures inside are faded and washed out... not sure if there's any way to revive them.
Not sure if this is gold or what.. but after I remove the photo papers, i'll have a closer inspection and I'll be able to clean them up to see if there are any markings inside.

Cleaned up... didn't test the gold but looking at the reverse sides after the liners were removed, I can see some of the under metals coming through the top layer.
Could be gold plated, but not solid and the locket didn't feel 'heavy' like solid gold anyway.
Here's a couple of shots with a penny for size comparison.
