The weather man messed up today. It was in the low 30s this morning and it was supposed to get cloudy and not get above 41. Well it was in the 30s and frosty when I went out this morning, but the sun stayed out and it was a wonderful 54 when I finished this afternoon. He can be wrong like that anytime he likes. It sure beats the rain and snow we have had lately and it is raining now and will continue tomorrow.

I was back on campus today swingin the CZ21 on the same field as yesterday, continuing my grid. Quarters were a little hard to come by, but the nickels just kept on popping up (12 yesterday and 15 today). In 6 hours I managed to find 58 coins with a face value of $3.04, a bible quote pendant, more of those screw in spikes, 2 stainless steel whatsits, a pair of cheapy earrings, a John Smoltz hat pin missing the pin, a pewter Fox pendant, and a gold ring.

The rings is a small 14k band that weighs .08 Troy ounces or 2.6 grams. Not much, but gold is gold and it’s always a thrill when you see it come out of the ground. It has a Frederick Goldman makers mark. It is slightly out of round, but that is easily fixed. I dug a lot of tabs, some can slaw and a little aluminum foil, but you have to if you want to find the gold. This is gold ring number 3 FTY and the first one I get to keep. The other 2 were class rings, one returned and the other will be as soon as I make contact with the owners widow (she just moved away and I am waiting for a member of the graduating class who is tracking her down for me).

The John Smoltz hat pin is marked “1990 edition” so I guess it was made in 1990. The fox is just like one I found on line that is part of a key ring. The loop is broken off and he has a small chunk missing on the right side.

The stainless things are a mystery to me. They look like something I’ve seen but I can’t place them. Any help would be appreciated.

We leave for Florida tomorrow to visit my wife’s brother and his wife. They live right on the beach so I should be able to do some nice warm detecting for a few days. With luck I’ll have some more goodies to post next week when I get back. The last time I was there I found about 3 pounds of fishing sinkers. I wonder how many I will find this time?

Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things.

Wonderful walk!
Those stainless things remind me of those key fobs that allow for separation. Like house keys on one ring, car on the other, push and they connect. Push again to separate into two key chains. :dontknow:

They do have a similar look, but there doesn’t appear to be any way to fasten the keys or the ring. Thanks for the reply and keep walkin and swingin.

Looks like a nice variety of finds. Good luck in Florida.

Thanks Trezurehynter. Only got 3 hours in this morning during high tide. I did find a few coins, but the signals were few and far between. Maybe I will have better luck tomorrow. Keep swingin.

I was thinking it might've been a broken set. Sorta came apart, hence the finding of them? ;)

Nice ring! Hope you find some more in Florida.

Thanks. The beach has been pretty clean, but I do find a nice little silver ring today. I will post a full wrap up next week when I get home. Keep swingin.

Do you know that there is a machine that sifts the beach sand in Ft. Lauderdale each morning at about 5 am? I was there 5 months ago and saw it after being told about it

I have seen beach grooming machines on a lot of beaches over the years. They pick up the big pieces of trash and sometimes break up a spill. The ones I have seen do NOT pick up the coins, rings and small jewelry. A chain or large earring may get picked up by the wires that scoop up the trash, but they can be redeposited at another location. I have detected beaches right behind the groomer and still found plenty of change and small jewelry.

The beach I am detecting has workers on 4 wheelers who go up and down the beach and pick up the big trash. No beach grooming machines here. They did pump new sand onto this beach about a year ago.

Thanks for the input and keep swingin.
