Hi everyone! I haven't been out detecting in over a month until today. It's summer break time for us. I have been itching to get out and dig some holes. I got an invite from a good friend to hunt a standing colonial home permission today for a few hours. I was running 14khz and Reactivity 5 on the Deus staying close to the house in the nails. I got a signal next to a large tree root and dug up my very first Continental Army USA Revolutionary War Button! I actually said OMG out loud. 107663746_10217536038456437_7026181923658147691_n.jpg 116548413_10217539579464960_9007168128074188415_n.jpg 116102289_10217542458736940_4956286134315755586_o.jpg 117058706_10217539579864970_6022180685031983709_n.jpg

That's awesome! Congratulations! I just found my first last week. Yours looks considerably larger. Mine must be a cuff. It's about 20mm.

Mine is roughly 21 - 22mm. I was reading Don Troiani's book last night and I remember seeing the smaller size buttons were around 18mm. There's tons of variants.

Yup that indeed is considered a coat size. Good to see u did not go crazy trying to clean it. Dug pewter is best, expect for some water to get off the dirt, left along. Great button and congrats. Gotta tell u the XP Deus is indeed a relic hunting machine. BTw if one provably another. Good luck and site thst site till no readings on your Deus. Gary

My motto is "less is more" when cleaning relics. You can go too far and make them look terrible. Since it's pewter I stored it in moist dirt from the hole until I could get home to work on it. I got everything ready and then removed it from the dirt. I washed it off and gently toothpicked the dirt a little. After that, she got a five hour soak in Elmer's glue and water before three coats of Ren Wax.

Congrats on your first Rev War USA. I scratched that off my list a while back, but I'm still looking for one that's in that kind of condition!

Big congrats on digging a Rev. War USA button in such well-preserved condition. I've hunted my hear of standing colonial homes but results were usually a bit disappointing. I believe the older finds are usually too deep to be detected. I wonder if that tree root worked the button closer to the surface.

I wondered the exact same thing. Did the root push the button up or keep it from going down? Either way, I'm glad I swung over that root. I always hunt right up against trees and bushes if I know I am at a spot that has been detected previously.
