Hello All,

Here's the Cane Bandits' latest video digging between hurricanes this late summer (Laura and Beta). Had some great luck with some military relics (what we believe is the shield from an artillery shako cap badge, eagle button, McClellan saddle hardware, and more), some stunning silver coins--including a beautiful seated half dime, sweet quarter franc, and Shangalang's first ever 3 cent silver! To wrap up the video is one of the "marble harvests" which we do this time every year. Enjoy!

Here are some highlights from the video:

A colonial silver sleeve link or button made out of a half real:

1840 french quarter franc (my second ever; but I do have a 20 centimes from the 1850s ;) ) Shangalang also has two of these coins so I've caught up to him :laughing7:

McClellan Saddle hardware:

And both these pieces visible in the photo below:

colonial spur buckle, 1690-1720 era :love10:

A STUNNING 1857-O Half Dime sticking out of a clod which cleaned up beautifully with the aluminum foil/baking soda method:

IMG_2775.JPG IMG_2776.JPG

A REALLY weird barrel tap which I haven't seen anything like before. What on earth was the purpose of this??

fragments of a thin, silver colonial thimble, and its Big Brass Brother:

And the spoils of our first big Marble Harvest of 2020!

Keep Diggin!

How many days or hours of hunting do you think this was? I can't believe the amount of early silvers you two find! I still don't have anything earlier than a barber but I have high hopes for this fall after harvest.

Also, your youtube channel has one new subscriber! I've been watching some of your videos lately but I get way too jealous haha.

Great finds!
Your "barrel tap" looks a lot like a maple sugaring tree tap..

Great video and finds. I like all of those marbles and the plantation tokens, (the old silver isn't bad either) !

Don’t worry, you’ll get there! Thanks for subscribing! My channel isn’t as hyped up as, say Beaux or the Hoover Boys is—but I think we can hang with all of those guys in terms of finds. ;)

The finds shown were from four days of hunting:

Day 1: 9am to 5pm
Day 2: 7am to 7pm
Day 3: 6:30am to 12 noon (rain chased me out)
Day 4: 11am to 7pm

my digging buddy tends to get worn out and leave mid afternoon and I usually stay as long as possible to dig.

weird! No maple trees this far south. Wonder if it had any other uses?

Oh wow! Those are some long days! I guess you've just got to put in the hours at the right spots. My days are usually only 2-5 hours, it's sometimes just hard to stay out for a long time by yourself unless you're having a really good day.

to be honest I think much of my success in this hobby is the ability to just tune it all out and swing the detector. Not worrying so much about what I’m finding or not finding. That’s the relaxation to me...if I was worried about getting skunked it wouldn’t be relaxing anymore. Yeah we spend some long days in some pretty brutal heat to dig what we dig down here.

its definitely an 18th c barrel tap of some sort. Strange that it was made to filter out solids though. Unless someone down here just got tired of drinking muddy water

Nice hunts once again, well done Buckleboy.

Yes! It great to hear that there's others out there that can tune it all out. I tell folks it's the only thing I can do for a whole day and not think of anything. Just worry free listening to the beeps, dreaming of what the next good sound could be. After 50yrs it's just gotten a whole lot sweeter as I really enjoy even digging up the nails just to see, rose heads, clipped......helps date the next possible keeper before I dig.
