I spent 6 hours with the CZ21 working the grid on the field at the old high school. I found 38 coins with a face value of $1.94 including 5 wheaties, a copper roof fastener, a screw in cleat, a key, a thumb screw from a music instrument, 2 round balls, a bird band, a live 22 blank, a flat button, a tag or token, an eagle button.

The roof fastener was used on the tar paper under the shingles. This one is blank, but I have found some with company names on them. The marching band practiced on this field and I have found a number of instrument parts so I am sure about the thumb screw. The eagle button is missing the back. When I used a magnet it stuck to the rim so the back was ferrous and has rusted away so it probably is a more modern jacket button.

The flat button is plain with a DOUBLE GILT back mark with a leaf pattern. The shank is bent but is still there.

The round balls look like they are .44 caliber. They could be from the civil war camp, but with round balls you can never be sure. One is mashed some and the other is in nice round shape.

The token/tag was pretty crusty. I could make out W GOD–Y. I did a little electrolysis and scrubbed at it a wooden skewer and manager to get a complete name from it. It says O W GODFREY MILK. I looked it up on the internet and found a Godfrey dairy in Georgia and some references to Onnie W. Godfrey. So far no local ties, but it is possible there was a local Godfrey Dairy. I just need to do some more research. Here are before and after cleaning pictures.

A little gas money and some interesting oldies make for a good hunt. The milk tag is my favorite find of the day. It will be a challenge to get its history. Thanks for looking, stay safe and keep swingin.

Nice finds. I like that milk tag.

It is definitely my favorite find of the day. I would love to find more info about it, but there were so many dairies years ago I don’t know where to start looking. Thanks for the reply, stay safe and keep swingin.
