I was organizing some finds from a not to distant hunts and took a second look at a couple of blank coppers I had found. Just tried holding with different light for a profile but nothing then I noticed that one had edge lettering.

So I knew what it had to be and started picking at the crust. I never like to clean too aggressively but the coin was toast anyway but I got a flake off and I could all the sudden read Liberty

Once I had the orientation and a little more brushing, all the sudden the discoloration was now a profile and the date. It is really hard to capture in a picture but its there, 1794. Not in great shape but it was exciting to turn a blank into only my second Liberty Cap.

It also inspired a second look at my oldest coin, which I was confident was a William III based on the bow of his ponytail. Some carful picking and I uncovered a date, 1691! Then I realized that it had to be a William and Mary. Another cool discovery and I now have a date for my oldest find and I can confirm it is 1600's'

For a long time having a 1600's coin was the only thing that I had over mbcuce. Now, he's got one, but I've got an English colonial silver coin, and he doesn't, so I'm cool with it.

Excuse me while I go to the restroom and get sick lol
I love when I’m rooting through my old stuff and then I find something that I thought I didn’t have. I went through my junk And I saw a piece of pewter that I put in there and when I put a little nose grease on it it was a War of 1812 script “I”. Congratulations on our beautiful 17th century coin

Hi, would it be possible to get a look at the whole side of the coin with the 1691 date? The numbers look to be an odd size and configuration for a William or William and Mary copper.

Thanks for the pictures, I can’t get any further with it but I don’t think it’s English.
