The snow has mostly melted and I had an hour before my kid's hockey, so I hit a nearby permission. I was loosely gridding an area where I think an outbuilding once stood, and was getting lots of iron signals. I cranked the recovery speed up to the maximum 8, which I rarely do. About 10 minutes in, I got a skipping high tone bouncing in the low thirties. I dug my hole and recovered this 1926 Standing Liberty quarter, my first with a complete date. I rescanned the hole and was still getting a chirpy high tone. I stuck my pinpointer in the hole and found this 1920 Liberty Walking half. Technically, I guess Miss Liberty was standing in my hole first and walked away, but that makes for a lousy title. Swung for another half hour or so and found no coins, but dug a few miscellaneous items and spotted this ox shoe on the surface. I don't know how old these shoes typically are, but I am hoping this means this property is older than I thought. I am really excited about these finds, and I am happy to see the snow disappearing . Thanks for checking out my post. Happy hunting!

Congrats on the awesome Silva. It’s rare to see a walking liberty with a lower date, most I see are from the 40’s.

Just lovely...especially the walking 1920 liberty...and your first readable date on the 1926 standing? Congratulations!

It's always nice to find silver, but to find the larger silver coins is a big plus. Congrats.

They made so many during WW2 that your chances are much better finding one of those as opposed to the earlier dates. Gary

Thanks .. those are two of the most beautiful U.S. coins indeed. The obverse of the Walking Half and the reverse of the Standing Liberty are my favorites; wish they could have combined the two:laughing7:.

Thanks. I am hoping the oxen shoe is a good sign. Unfortunately, this lot is being developed soon, so I won't have much time to find out.
