Well my first hunt was on the 1st of this month. I had heard about a mobile home park that had been sold and cleared out so decided too visit the spot. spent the day there and found a decent amount of clad
about $3.25 But my biggest came at the front end of the lots. my first coin there was a 1955 D wheat the next was a 1958 and then not far from that one another 1955 3 wheats. Started wondering how these wound up here because the park was put in around the mid 1970. So I continue out comes another target I dig 3" and bang a 1965 quarter. No, not special but happens too be the year I was born so sentimental value ;). well, near the end of the day so one more target. Ding! i dig..its a dime. 19?? 19??
1944WILVER!!!!! A merc I was so bothered trying too read the date did not notice the profile on the obverse a merc. A silver coin in my area is not the common especially found at abandoned mobile home park built in the mid 70's wow..so trying too find the history of that area too see where else i may want too hunt. Had some yankee weather on the 2nd to the 5th so too cold too hunt for me but got out yesterday and found $.63 cents on a 2 hour hunt at the beach. Well all I had so HH all till next time.

Photos did not come out well do not know what is going on with the digi camera but the photos come out too fuzzy for me too post >:(. So will put them in later . HH

Silver is always a good day in my books.

You mention research which is of course important & will find you areas to do. However obvious places which come up in research have often been done before, not to say more won't come out but consider my approach for a minute. I never discriminate about where to search. My motto stands at "try anywhere once" - which doesn't mean only do it once because a good site can take years. What it means is take every opportunity to go everywhere you can gain permission. Let no chance pass you by. You proved today that a 1970s site had much older coins. So there are dozens of obivious places which detectorist don't bother with because they think it is modern. Go out and discover those places which are not on maps, you do this by trying everywhere once! I specialise in farm fields, so if you can find land which has been cropped for years then do it.

Happy Hunting
