1936 Merc dime ~ 1943-S War nickel ~ 1945-S War nickel ~ 15 Wheat cents ~ & CLAD

I met Ron & Richard downtown today ~ we all did pretty good! Here's what I dug:

1936 Mercury dime

1943-S War nickel

1945-S War nickel

15 Wheats ~ '18-S, '29-S, '30-S, '36, '39-S, '40-S, '41-S, '42'S, '42-D,
'44-D, '44-S, '46-S, '47-S X 2, & one too corroded to make out the date.

12 clad quarters

22 clad dimes

8 nickels

105 memorial cents

I was hoping for more silver coins since I was digging so many Wheat cents ~ but a merc dime & two war nickels ain't too bad I guess!

HAPPY HUNTING!
Neil

That's a good question! I'm not sure actually! They seem to come in all different ~ it depends on the ground conditions and how deep they are.

I've done air tests with regular nickels and War nickels ~ they come in at the same VDI number. But out in the ground it's different. It seems that the War nickels are easier to detect than the nickels that were made before & after the war time nickels. Not sure what happens to them in the ground. 99% of my detecting is done in Oregon ~ I may be different in different area.

Happy Hunting!

Congrats again, Neil, on your silver finds. You've been getting those war nickels on a regular basis. I really like finding them because they're not as frequent as mercs/rosies for me. You're right....depending on what the ground does to them (how much of that black tar grows on them), they can sound anywhere from a regular nickel to a wheat penny.

Good luck on your next outing!
