"P" Button Superior Quality

Got out for a few hours today with HikerMike while darling wife slept ;D.
We hit the hot spot again, man this 40x40 area is HOT. There are so many iron and mixed signals every 6" you don't know what to dig, Last week i spent 4 hours digging about 30 pieces of iron and no good finds >:( But today was another story, not even 20 min into the DING DING DONG DONG DONG of the Ace 250 I dug an iffy signal and ALAS!! my very first button, ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D And wouldn't you know not even 5 seconds into my celebration dance,
Mr WANNAGOTTANEEDAHAVA more finds than his hunting buddies HikerMike pulls the same button out of the ground 8). But during his Bojangles moment he had a momentarily (LONG TERM) brain lapse on the rules of digging and OOPS put a nasty dent in the front :o. But seriously had a good time again today mike hope you appreciate the humor (TRUTH) it makes posting on Tnet a little more intresting.

It is a police button. Not sure on the age of the backmark.

Thanks Plehbah, What do you need from the back to properly I.D it? I cant seem to find anything as far as a date or story behind it anywhere.

Hey man.... Nice button! I got one just like it. Only mine has got an idiot mark!!
With all the iron I got way to careless. You would think after 17 years of detecting I would
would have learned what not to do! This wasnt the first time this has happened, but I do hope its the last!!
Here is a pic of my button.........scars and all!!

Re: "P" Button Superior Quality

Yea Plehbah is dead on... the thing is, there IS no back mark - just a "quality mark". It's prolly a late 1800s early 1900s Police Button based on construction. If Don in SJ or PBK comes along with a book they may be able to tell exactly based on the quality marks additional features like rings and dots.

However, I'd bet on the Waterbury Button Company (shown below) who still makes these today and MAY have made that one, as they used the term "Superior Quality" from 1875-1935.

Nice button...it must be from a P coat...okay that was pretty bad.

Congrats on the finds.
