Well, I had just gotten done posting my finds from today below when I pulled out this little piece that I had forgotten about.

I was walking along eager but VERY patient for a great find, much in the same way as John Walter ;D ;D  When, all of a sudden, the BEAU-TI-FUL Whites "treasure detecta" rang up as +75   BUT since I was tuned into the Civil War relics, minie balls and brass that I was hunting and SINCE this piece was small and fragile, I put it separate of the heavy lead bullets and kinda forgot about it...

WELL,

I just pulled it out of my pocket and wiped the face with some soapy water and a CROSS is staring back at me! WOW, this is a nice surprise for sure.....and my first Spanish Half-Reale Cob! I've dug the milled ones and bigger cobs but this my first Hammered half-reale Spanish ....

Sweet! looks like someone had it as a necklace

Yes, you are on the right track, people DID indeed wear coins in the late 1800s as was the fashion....however, with this cob, it is more than likely that it was probably put on thread with other coins. This was a way to keep money together and from loosing it.

Wow Sentinal .... You sure hit the jackpot on this one my friend. A Cob. I can only dream of finding one of those where I live. I guess I will have to suffer with mid to late 1700's Reales instead. ::) You deserve this find and I sure am happy for you.
Chris

Thanks Zeus, I sure know that you and your nephews are out there and as dedicated as I am! Re: WOW My 1st SPANISH SILVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How deep did you dig for this? I am just starting in the hobby and I have a bounty hunter discovery 1100. I am finding pennies and dimes and some cartidges. I sure like those White's detectors, wonder if I am missing out on alot of stuff. It really doesn't show how deep they detect, how do the readings work -95 to +95 etc.

Re: WOW My 1st SPANISH SILVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!UPDATED: Cleaned and Polished Pics

Largely unidentifiable to date and assayer, but a very cool find. Yes, the pierced holes were for careful carrying, not display. Leave it justs "as is". Value I would say to be around $50-$100 max. Your exact certification of the find location will add to value. Great piece!
