1800's local estate sale.

What a awesome treasure hunt. If I had $20,000. I would have come home with truck loads, even a Model t with wooden wheels for $5500. :D Well I only spent $220.50, that was enough. You would have flipped over the 1880's map, the scroll, roll up kind, went for $1800. :o

I did buy a couple of 3 cent pieces that I am thrilled with the first is an 1852, the second no readable date but it does have the fig leafs and arrows around the III, so it has to date 1854-1862? The dimes were rather nice seated liberty variety 2 1857 & 1877.

The Wm Rogers dessert knives in the original box was a treat. An old oak table, we need to put back together. Some blue plates for $5 that surprised me when I found the large plates had Currier and Ives Royal Ironstone on them. A nice box of rose plates, some from England.

Ty wanted to go and see the treasures and fell in love with an old steam engine we could not afford. He also found and old military class ring in a mens jewelery box, a nice assortment in there so I bought the whole box for "US" for $40. There is a 1893 columbian worls fair half dollar medal in there that I kept, the pocket watch, the cameo button, and the star medal.

Well enough gabbing here are the pictures!

Holy Mooly CG!
Great shopping day!
The watch alone is probably worth more than you paid for the whole lot of trinkets!
Too bad you didn't take your camera along; that Model T with wooden wheels would have made a great avatar!

I was! Wild horses couldn't have dragged me away. I am still kicking myself over the Ruby ring :-\. I quit at $90. Should have kept going for a bit, but.......The coins were still coming up. I'm happy overall. Thanks. :)

CG, I think the money spent was well worth it and besides it was a day of entertainment. The only downside to estate sales is ending up with more "stuff" that you really did not need, but from what you posted, it looks like all keepers to me.

Country Girl That Chicago worlds fair Columbian Exposition 1/2 dollar metal is a real silver last issue date U.S. half dollar! I have both issue date coins, 1892 and 1893!!! I also had a chance to purchase a ticket from the event for $15 from the barganfinder, but before that I wanted an Isabella Quarter to go along with the halfs but they wanted way to much for the coin!!! I had wanted to put the stuff together as a collection in a shadow box! But oh well!!!!

Yeah Don, I think most of it is keepers. I did give a friend a creamer and sugar bowl with strawberries on it, and another nick knack that came in the one box, she liked it so.......

You would have been amazed at the history there crazy.

Silver, that actualluy makes 2 1893 worls fair coins I have, the first was a gift from a friend for helping him out. I wish you luck on your shadow box! Do you know why it was in medal form? Did they sell them all that way?

Re: 1800's local estate sale. Updat

Thanks Detect, me too! :)

Plehbah, I am so sorry for your recent loss. I wouldn't hesitate to use the dishes for a while.

This family was a part of "our" town before we were our own town. 1793 is when this town was established, I was honored to be born in this town as was my husband. :) We bought a home that has been in my family for 50 years. I figure I saved some of "my" history from e-bay. :)

This gentleman and his sister lived in their parents, maybe grandparents home, they had no children. MANY local people took their time to take care of the sister until her death. Her obituaries read "and her caretakers" there were probably 15 people listed, everyone of them a "town folk". He was a WWII vet, a history buff, a true collector. She was a quilter, and a collector of few things, a simple woman. Peronally I saved her blue plates from the dumpster, I didn't "desire" them I saved them. :) Ty saw history in an old military ring, and I thought his interest in history was worth it, in doing so I saved a few more simple things. I wore the Cameo to work.

The 75 acre 200 +/- farm home, are all going to the conservation society. I'll tell you one thing....allot of my town history stayed in my town, because we were ALL there, just trying to save a piece at a time.

Thanks for going along with me!

Re: 1800's local estate sale.

From what I heard or I should say was told was they gave them out to people attending the fair, then there were also people there charging to put them in the holder in which you have!!!!!

You got a great trove of stuff for your $220!! What a haul...

I'd be interested to hear if you ever get some of the individual items appraised: The watch, the military ring, the Rogers knives (w/ orig. box!). It's a borgaschmord of great, great stuff.

Re: 1800's local estate sale.

Silver, thanks for the info, I have been looking and I have not found another in the holder. Makes it just a bit more special.

Admirale, thanks for the kind words. I was surprised at the age and value of the pocket watch. I opened the inside to see the jewels and workings, and from what I can find it was a high end late 1800's watch. I can't seem to find anything on the ring, but I'll keep looking. :)
