I was detecting in very shallow water at a small lake, and saw a gold reeded edge of a large coin. $20 gold piece? No way - couldn't be that lucky. Actually found 2 of them close together, so maybe I'm lucky afterall ;D

Looks like some sort of cub scout commemorative thingy. Anyone have any info on it? Who is the figure on the front and what is the significance of 1837 on the back?

I just ordered a scouting collectibles book off of Amazon. Hopefully they have some info on these coins. I have found other scouting items in the past, so I figured it would be nice to have an identification book on hand.

I don't know, but Boy Scout and Cub Scouts did not start until after 1910, so I'm not sure what the significance of that date would be for them. Let us know what you find out!

psst seminole war 1835 to 1842 --1837 -- which fits the time frameand indain on front * maybe a loyal indain scout for us forces type of item .

before the mexican american war (which occured after 1837) california was mexican area and I doubt they would issued "english lettered coinage"

Yes, it looks like "RWM" just above the date and below the shield.

The front only says SERVICE - DUTY - HONOR around the guy's head.

RWM stands for "Right Worshipful Master" in Freemasonry. That would also go along with "service, duty, honor" on the other side. I would do some research on the Masons in your area. The RWM of 1837 may be the guy on your coin.

Nice token, I can see why you got excited oh baby. RWM is the manufacturer, it stands for Roger Williams Mint they are now part of Tokens Direct. Here is a link to their site. http://www.rogerwilliamsmint.com/ Maybe you can email them the info to ID your token. Good Luck!

IMO, I see nothing in that coin related to Freemasonry. Or even scouting.
You have 'Order of the Redman' , but the character has a beard & it still
doesn't fit. How about the 'Woodsmen of the World' ? I really don't know.
Keep us informed if it's ID'ed.

I was asking what the initials were below the collar. That could be a clue. The Rogers Williams Mint link gives a phone number. If i found it I'd call. Nice find. You found two?

Yeah, I found two of these coins pretty close to each other. I'm going back to the same spot next week to see if I can find any more.
