Hunting old tavern near where the" Welcome stranger" was found

Hi all,had few days off with pay, quite at work so i thought i might try my luck else where.Yesterday i went to an area known as Waanyarra.Farming and gold mining settlement located half between where the largest nugget ever found "The Welcome Stranger" and the largest in modern times "The Hand of Faith".Waanyarra has its own fare share of big nuggets found too.I didn,t find any gold and this link will explain why theres little gold left these days in this area.

http://www.waanyarra.com/waanyarra/gold.html

The first place i decided to hunt was a old gold rush tavern which these days is used for a farm storage shed.My family once lived near here so i knew the family who own the land around here. So access was no problem but some buildings in the area are of historical value and are not allowed to be hunted.

Dig plenty of farm yard junk from all the years the old tavern was used by the farmer.Stock fence wire pieces,broken shearing combs,bits of tractor being the nuts and bolts that rattled off. lol I did notice a depression in the ground and asked if that was the trash pit for the tavern. The farmer laughed and said no.Its the old sheep dip and i quickly knew what he was laughing about. A sheep dip is a dug hole lined with boards to make it water tight.Then filled with water and DDT and the sheep are bathed in it to get rid pests. Yicks and no thanks.Not used for more than 50 years but still the ground around would have DDT in it.

3 hours pasted and finally a couple of finds.

English penny 1895 and silver jewellery with a well warn Hall mark,Never seen hall mark like this.The first and last mark seem to be a Tree and other marks are not readable.The other find was a medal of the Sandhurst Town hall in 1887.Ground is getting hard all ready. Need some rain soften things up.

heres a few pics and thanking for looking

Thank for the replies, Yes they did find some big ones but this area was hunted since the late 1970's with mds too. Seem one would have to real lucky to get a speck of gold these days.

You do find nice treasure tinpan.
Our old sheep dips are quite an environmental menace;
add Arsenic to the list of nasties to be found around them.
